REVIEW: Kat Von D x Billie Joe Armstrong Basket Case Anti-Precision Pencil Eyeliner

Sunday, 8 April 2018

I remember the first time I heard about the Kat von D and Billie Joe Armstrong collaboration. I didn't even know what it was, but I knew that I had to have it - I was so adamant in getting it that I even included it in the Current Beauty Wishlist post I did back in early-February. Green Day, and Billie Joe Armstrong in particular, were an incredibly important aspect of my formative years; they were the playlist of my life and their posters formed the wallpaper of my bedroom walls. Nearly every memory that I have of my teens has their music playing in the background.
So when I heard that Billie Joe Armstrong was putting his name on a product by one of my favourite beauty brands, it was pretty obvious that I would be one of the first in line to pick it up.

To be honest though, I was a little intimidated when I went into Debenhams to buy it - it is, by far, the thickest, chunkiest eyeliner that I think that I have ever seen. Kat Von D were really not kidding when they described it as anti-precision - if your go-to is natural, sleek or precise, this one is really not for you. But, if your go-to is Kate Moss after too many vodkas, then I urge you to pick it up.

Before this one, Kat Von D only had one eyeliner, the legendary cult-favourite Tattoo Liner that many people, myself included, wax lyrically about. The Billie Joe Armstrong collaboration is the perfect companion, the perfect next move from the brand; they are antithesis's of one another and, with both of them in your make-up bag, there is really no other product you would ever need to create any kind of eye look.
Like its sleeker sister, the Basket Case eyeliner is completely waterproof - a difficult thing to find in products such as this one - it can be smudged as much or as little as you want, but after that, it is not going to move anywhere. Because, as we all know, there's nothing worse than an artfully smoky, edgy look turning into panda eyes by the end of the night.

For me, this product really does tick all of the boxes - it's waterproof, even on my strangely oily eyelids; it has a built-in sharpener to always ensure that it is always at the exactly right level of thickness (I mean, there's nothing worse than a blunt eyeliner, right? Even one that's anti-precision); and, like all Kat Von D products, it is completely vegan and cruelty-free.
Overall, I think this is an amazing product and one of the most exciting releases that I have seen from Kat Von D in quite a long time.
